The promise, precisely
Doppel is free right now. When it starts charging, the base tier stays free, permanently, for anyone who installed during the beta. Not a discount, not a trial extension. The base tier.
The grandfather status is bound to your install ID, held locally, so it survives reinstalls and does not depend on you keeping an email address or an account around. There is no account to sign into.
What I am not promising: that every future feature lands in the base tier. Things that cost me money per use (hosted models, cloud transcription) will sit in a paid tier or run on your own API key. Anything that runs on your own machine is the part I can afford to keep free, so that is the part I am committing to.
The beta ends when the software is ready, not on a date I picked to pressure you.
Hear about it when it happens
Optional, and not required for the grandfather promise. That is tied to your install, not your inbox. This is only so I can tell you when pricing lands and what your license became.
One email when pricing is announced. No newsletter, no drip sequence. I do not have the time to run one even if I wanted to.
Telling me something is broken
The fastest route is the built-in reporter: Settings → Feedback inside the app. Nothing goes without your approval, and “View what will be sent” shows you the literal payload — worth pressing, because diagnostics are attached by default and the report also carries the email address you activated with and your beta key’s identifier.
If the app will not start (the report I most want), email support@cloneme.today and mention your Windows version and roughly what you were doing.
This is a beta run by one person. Reports get read, and the ones that come with a reproduction get fixed first.

The banner’s Stop button now stops the run
The on-screen banner that stays up during desktop automation has a Stop button that could be hovered but never clicked — the click fell through to the app underneath. It works now. Switching Outlook or Teams off in Settings while a summary is running no longer takes the Stop button and the summary with it; the run stays stoppable and its result still appears. Teams and desktop-automation replies now draw on your calibrated writing profile, spoken voice and professional background, which were being read from the wrong place and coming back empty, and they are written as one voice rather than with the Draft tab’s two-voice instructions. Settings, Calibration, the capture picker, the debrief archive and the writing-style panel now share one dialog that Escape closes and that screen readers announce by name, first launch shows a loading state instead of a blank window, and Doppel’s helper processes record why they exited so a failed start leaves a diagnosable line.

Summarize an Outlook thread without leaving your desk
Desktop automation arrives under Settings → Integrations, off by default. Turn it on for Outlook and the Draft tab gains “Summarize this thread”: Doppel brings Outlook to the front, reads the open conversation through Windows accessibility, and shows a short summary you can copy. It reads and nothing more — no screenshots, no clicking Send — a banner stays on screen for the whole run, and Esc stops it. Reply-by-automation isn’t in this version yet; the local model still invents details when asked to write on your behalf, so only Summarize is offered. Also: resetting your writing samples now clears the personality Doppel distilled from them, a fatal error shuts down the helper processes before the dialog shows, and two quick toggles in Settings → Data no longer overwrite each other.

Doppel opens its window first, and says what the local engine is doing
The helper processes now start a moment after the window has painted, so launch feels quicker and an antivirus scanner sees a calmer first second. While a local model is still loading, chat says so — still starting, try again in a moment — instead of asking you to install a model you already have; if the engine failed to load, it says that too and points you at a smaller one. Resetting your writing samples now also clears the profile Doppel compiled from them, so drafts stop sounding like samples you deleted. Backups no longer carry your Windows account name inside stored paths, a restore no longer mistakes another installation’s leftover screenshots for its own, and the licence revocation list Doppel fetches has to be signed by us — an unsigned one counts as a failed check-in, never as an empty one.

Your restored screenshots are still there
Restoring a backup onto the same machine used to bring your meeting screenshots back labelled “Image expired” — while the pictures themselves sat untouched on the disk. A backup cannot know where it will be restored, so that decision has moved to the machine doing the restoring, which is the only one that can look. Restore onto the same machine and the pictures are simply there. Restore onto a different one and Doppel says so plainly: the images could not travel in the backup, so they show as expired, while every caption and every piece of text read off them comes back with the meeting. Zooming with Ctrl and plus or minus also stopped shrinking the open window down to the small avatar — it now only resizes the avatar when the avatar is what you are looking at.

Ghost Mode can hide the window and keep listening
Settings → Advanced → Privacy has a new option: “Hide the window, keep voice on”. It takes Doppel off the screen during a share while the wake word keeps working, so you can ask it something without the audience seeing anything. Each spoken reply ends the turn — say the wake word again for the next one — and Ctrl+Shift+H, the shortcut you already know for Ghost Mode, brings the window back with protection still on. If another app already holds that shortcut, Doppel tells you and stays visible rather than hiding a window it could not bring back. Voice-only lasts for the session; Doppel always starts visible. Also in this release: live-meeting transcript segments now belong to their meeting, so they are cleared when the debrief finishes, deleted with the meeting, and never included in a backup.

One key at a time, and copy that says what it means
Settings → Advanced → API Keys used to stack all four services down a single page. Now you pick the one you want — Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Deepgram or Tavily — and only that one is on screen, with the services you have no key for dimmed in the list. The status badge moved directly under the Save and Test buttons, so it answers the thing you just did instead of describing how things stood before you touched anything. The Permissions list reads faster too: one short line under each switch, and every row the same height. Two fixes came out of shortening that copy. Switching service no longer brings back an old result for a key you have just tested, and the screen-capture permission now describes what happens in each of its two states rather than making one claim that only held while it was off.

The ElevenLabs voice reaches your meeting
Speaking through the browser extension used to refuse the ElevenLabs voice outright, because the audio never became something the meeting could carry. It does now, so the people on the call hear the same voice you do. Hands-free conversation keeps listening when you minimise Doppel, and stops recording on time whether or not the window is on screen. You can zoom the whole app with Ctrl and plus, minus or 0, and Doppel remembers the size you chose. Tabs, the chat box and the meeting controls are easier to reach by keyboard, with a clear outline showing where you are. The waking-up bar now tracks how quickly your own machine loads a model instead of creeping to a fraction and disappearing, and Doppel keeps your machine awake only while it is genuinely recording or listening.

ElevenLabs voices start after the first sentence
A reply read aloud with an ElevenLabs voice now begins after its first sentence, with the rest prepared while you listen, the way the local voice already worked. A screen capture's description can no longer land on a different capture if you delete one while it is still being described and take another. Bug reports you choose to send now hide your Windows username even when it has a space in it or appears inside a quoted path. When your organization blocks a Teams presence request or an Outlook connection, the Permissions and Email tabs now say what to ask your IT admin for, with the code to hand them, and sign-in redirects are verified before any of their error text is shown.

Teams replies say when an assistant sent them
The first reply Doppel sends automatically in a chat now ends with one line telling the other person an assistant wrote and sent it on your behalf. Once per chat, never on a reply you send yourself. It starts on, because the person it informs is not the one holding the switch, and you can turn it off under Draft and then Teams. The setting for describing screen captures with your own key has moved in beside the other permissions, in Settings under Advanced; turning it on still only offers, with the disclosure and an explicit confirmation before any image is sent. Meeting Support is tidier too: raw notes appear while a meeting is on, the debrief buttons sit on one row, and a paused meeting shows how long it actually recorded next to how long it lasted. Quitting mid-meeting now finishes that recording rather than abandoning it, deleting a meeting clears its action items with it, and a question asked in the first seconds after launch waits for the engine instead of being told there is not one.

Capture what’s on screen in a meeting
A camera button on the Meeting tab and on the compact strip takes a screenshot of the screen or window you pick and files it into the recording at the moment you took it. Doppel hides itself for that instant, so it never lands in your screenshot, and if the window you chose has closed it captures the full screen and says so rather than swapping quietly. Captures show up in the debrief where you can caption them, leave one out of the summary, or delete it. Describing them with your own Anthropic key is off until you turn it on and accept the disclosure; a capture whose image was sent is then marked “Sent to cloud” in the list, and it keeps that mark. Images stay until you delete them unless you set a number of days, and the description and timestamp outlive the image either way. Also in this release: a meeting the app was killed in the middle of is recovered at the next launch instead of lost, and a multi-gigabyte model download asks first.

Meetings get a heads-up strip
While a meeting records, collapse Doppel to a small always-on-top bar: elapsed time, pause and resume, a flag button to mark moments worth remembering, and a one-line box to ask Doppel something without leaving the call. Flagged moments land in the debrief — timestamp plus a snippet of what was said around then — and travel into the exported PDF. Also in this release: if you had used “Pause all” to stop Teams replies, automatic sending now starts switched off, honouring the pause the old switch recorded.

Chat keeps going when the cloud can’t
If a cloud request fails because you are rate-limited, out of credits, or offline, Doppel now answers from the on-device model already running on your machine and marks those replies with a “Local” tag. It checks in the background and returns to the cloud at your next message once it recovers; the whole behavior can be switched off under Settings → AI Model. Visual mode also stops being a trap: there is always a visible way out, it survives machines without 3D graphics instead of going blank, and relaunching Doppel brings the normal widget back. Two smaller fixes: importing audio and re-transcribing now pause with an explanation while a meeting is recording, instead of competing with it, and an incomplete ElevenLabs key is reported as rejected rather than “saved, but could not be verified”.

A tidier Settings, and two fixes that had been hiding
Settings no longer shows two scrollbars at once, the on-device model is a drop-down rather than a stack of cards, and anything taking up disk space can be removed without switching to it first. The Teams availability permission is now an on/off toggle like every other permission on that page — if you had already allowed it, please switch it back on, because it starts off in this version and automatic replies only hold back for Do Not Disturb while it is on. Two older bugs went with it: Teams never actually resumed checking for messages after a restart despite saying it did, and the seven-day clean-up of Teams reply text only ran once an hour had passed, so shorter sessions never reached it.

Your meeting notes, kept with the debrief
The notes you take during a meeting now sit with its debrief, where you can edit them and where they travel into the exported PDF. The notes box clears itself once a meeting is safely stored, ready for the next one — and holds on to what you wrote if the meeting couldn’t be wrapped up, because then it’s the only place that text lives. Doppel also fits smaller laptop screens properly now, including when you drag it onto a second monitor, and a verified API key stays verified between launches instead of asking again every time.

Long meetings transcribe while you’re still in the room
Recordings are now handled in ten-minute pieces that start transcribing during the meeting, so the debrief arrives sooner after you stop rather than waiting for the whole recording at the end. A quiet stretch no longer affects the rest of the meeting, and a meeting’s length shows with its debrief. On work laptops running another antivirus, a document Windows Defender can’t finish scanning gets a second opinion from Windows’ built-in scan interface instead of being refused outright — and anything Defender does flag as a threat is never re-checked.

Settings → General → About now shows “Up to date” or “Update available” beside your installed version, along with the latest version published. It only ever looks — opening the page downloads nothing and sends nothing about you. Long meetings get their summary back
On the built-in engine, a meeting past roughly fifteen minutes would quietly fail to produce a summary — the summarizer was handed more transcript than the on-device model can read at once. Doppel now sizes the transcript to what the model can take, keeping the start and the end of the meeting, where the decisions usually are. And if a summary still cannot be generated, your transcript is kept and “Try again” regenerates it, so a failed debrief no longer means recording the meeting again.

Your choice of on-device model size finally sticks
If you had picked a specific model size under Settings, Doppel was quietly forgetting it and reverting to the automatic pick every time the app opened. That is fixed, so a choice you make now holds. The earlier choice could not be recovered, so please set it once more if you had one. Start-up is also a little quicker, and the privacy pages now describe everything the app does on its own — the update check and the daily license check, neither of which sends anything about you.

Clearer answers when a document is blocked
When your malware scanner objects to a document, Doppel now names the scanner and what it found instead of a bare “flagged as a threat”, and says when the block came from your organization’s security policy rather than a virus — a very different conversation with IT. Checking a document no longer risks your copy of it: Doppel asks Windows Security for an opinion without letting it quarantine the original. Connecting to Teams or Outlook in a managed tenant now shows the code your IT admin needs, rather than looking like you had cancelled.

Your Teams chats, drafted in your voice
Recent one-to-one Teams chats now live under the Draft tab, showing who is available, busy or away, with replies drafted in your voice and the same one click to send. Each chat has its own autonomy dial, and it starts switched off. Incoming message text is never written to disk — close Doppel and it is gone. What does persist is a send audit: the text of replies Doppel sent for you, kept seven days, plus the chat and participant names.

Settings, then Voice, then Virtual Mic now offers two destinations: a virtual audio cable that carries the voice into Teams, Zoom and other meeting apps as your microphone, or your speakers, so your real microphone picks it up through the air.
