The promise, precisely
Doppel is free right now. When it starts charging, the base tier stays free, permanently, for anyone who installed during the beta. Not a discount, not a trial extension. The base tier.
The grandfather status is bound to your install ID, held locally, so it survives reinstalls and does not depend on you keeping an email address or an account around. There is no account to sign into.
What I am not promising: that every future feature lands in the base tier. Things that cost me money per use (hosted models, cloud transcription) will sit in a paid tier or run on your own API key. Anything that runs on your own machine is the part I can afford to keep free, so that is the part I am committing to.
The beta ends when the software is ready, not on a date I picked to pressure you.
Hear about it when it happens
Optional, and not required for the grandfather promise. That is tied to your install, not your inbox. This is only so I can tell you when pricing lands and what your license became.
One email when pricing is announced. No newsletter, no drip sequence. I do not have the time to run one even if I wanted to.
Telling me something is broken
The fastest route is the built-in reporter: Settings → Feedback inside the app. Nothing goes without your approval, and “View what will be sent” shows you the literal payload — worth pressing, because diagnostics are attached by default and the report also carries the email address you activated with and your beta key’s identifier.
If the app will not start (the report I most want), email support@cloneme.today and mention your Windows version and roughly what you were doing.
This is a beta run by one person. Reports get read, and the ones that come with a reproduction get fixed first.

Chat keeps going when the cloud can’t
If a cloud request fails because you are rate-limited, out of credits, or offline, Doppel now answers from the on-device model already running on your machine and marks those replies with a “Local” tag. It checks in the background and returns to the cloud at your next message once it recovers; the whole behaviour can be switched off under Settings → AI Model. Visual mode also stops being a trap: there is always a visible way out, it survives machines without 3D graphics instead of going blank, and relaunching Doppel brings the normal widget back. Two smaller fixes: importing audio and re-transcribing now pause with an explanation while a meeting is recording, instead of competing with it, and an incomplete ElevenLabs key is reported as rejected rather than “saved, but could not be verified”.

A tidier Settings, and two fixes that had been hiding
Settings no longer shows two scrollbars at once, the on-device model is a drop-down rather than a stack of cards, and anything taking up disk space can be removed without switching to it first. The Teams availability permission is now an on/off toggle like every other permission on that page — if you had already allowed it, please switch it back on, because it starts off in this version and automatic replies only hold back for Do Not Disturb while it is on. Two older bugs went with it: Teams never actually resumed checking for messages after a restart despite saying it did, and the seven-day clean-up of Teams reply text only ran once an hour had passed, so shorter sessions never reached it.

Your meeting notes, kept with the debrief
The notes you take during a meeting now sit with its debrief, where you can edit them and where they travel into the exported PDF. The notes box clears itself once a meeting is safely stored, ready for the next one — and holds on to what you wrote if the meeting couldn’t be wrapped up, because then it’s the only place that text lives. Doppel also fits smaller laptop screens properly now, including when you drag it onto a second monitor, and a verified API key stays verified between launches instead of asking again every time.

Long meetings transcribe while you’re still in the room
Recordings are now handled in ten-minute pieces that start transcribing during the meeting, so the debrief arrives sooner after you stop rather than waiting for the whole recording at the end. A quiet stretch no longer affects the rest of the meeting, and a meeting’s length shows with its debrief. On work laptops running another antivirus, a document Windows Defender can’t finish scanning gets a second opinion from Windows’ built-in scan interface instead of being refused outright — and anything Defender does flag as a threat is never re-checked.

See whether you’re on the newest version
Settings → General → About now shows “Up to date” or “Update available” beside your installed version, along with the latest version published. It only ever looks — opening the page downloads nothing and sends nothing about you. If the check can’t get an answer, it says so plainly rather than guessing at the cause, and still shows which version you’re running.

Long meetings get their summary back
On the built-in engine, a meeting past roughly fifteen minutes would quietly fail to produce a summary — the summarizer was handed more transcript than the on-device model can read at once. Doppel now sizes the transcript to what the model can take, keeping the start and the end of the meeting, where the decisions usually are. And if a summary still cannot be generated, your transcript is kept and “Try again” regenerates it, so a failed debrief no longer means recording the meeting again.

Your choice of on-device model size finally sticks
If you had picked a specific model size under Settings, Doppel was quietly forgetting it and reverting to the automatic pick every time the app opened. That is fixed, so a choice you make now holds. The earlier choice could not be recovered, so please set it once more if you had one. Start-up is also a little quicker, and the privacy pages now describe everything the app does on its own — the update check and the daily licence check, neither of which sends anything about you.

Clearer answers when a document is blocked
When your malware scanner objects to a document, Doppel now names the scanner and what it found instead of a bare “flagged as a threat”, and says when the block came from your organization’s security policy rather than a virus — a very different conversation with IT. Checking a document no longer risks your copy of it: Doppel asks Windows Security for an opinion without letting it quarantine the original. Connecting to Teams or Outlook in a managed tenant now shows the code your IT admin needs, rather than looking like you had cancelled.

A new icon, and honest activation diagnostics
Doppel has a new app icon, redrawn from a full-resolution master, so it is crisp in the taskbar and the installer. Activation history now says why a check-in did not complete — no connection, an address that would not resolve, a rejected certificate, a proxy, a network block — instead of one catch-all note. If your network blocks the address Doppel checks, Settings names that address, so whoever runs the network knows what to allow.

Recordings keep running when you collapse Doppel
Tucking Doppel into its avatar bubble no longer ends a meeting recording. The bubble shows a REC badge whenever a capture is live, so you can always tell at a glance, and the notes you typed are still waiting when you come back. If transcription hits a snag, your recording is now kept so you can re-run it rather than losing it.

Your Teams chats, drafted in your voice
Recent one-to-one Teams chats now live under the Draft tab, showing who is available, busy or away, with replies drafted in your voice and the same one click to send. Each chat has its own autonomy dial, and it starts switched off. Incoming message text is never written to disk — close Doppel and it is gone. What does persist is a send audit: the text of replies Doppel sent for you, kept seven days, plus the chat and participant names.

Interrupted downloads pick up where they stopped
A model download cut off by a patchy connection used to throw away everything that had arrived, start the multi-gigabyte file over, and report a failed integrity check that had not happened. Doppel now keeps what it has and asks only for the rest, tells a cut-off download apart from a damaged one, and shows honest progress when it resumes.

Every generated clip is watermarked
Audio generated in your voice now carries the provenance watermark the consent screen describes. It is inaudible, and it marks the audio as synthetic for anyone who checks later. If the watermark cannot be applied, the generation fails rather than handing you unmarked audio.

Doppel was saving every voice preview it generated and then never looking for it again, so playing a voice a second time re-ran the whole generation. Checking a voice, comparing two of them, or playing one for someone else now answers straight away.

Doppel was generating your voice correctly and then refusing to play it. The preview button and replies read aloud in your own voice both work now. Meeting recording also keeps going when you minimize Doppel, and your machine will not fall asleep partway through a long meeting.

Voice cloning generates again
Every attempt to generate a cloned voice failed with a generic message, no matter the settings, because the voice engine was tripping over its own audio conversion before it produced a sound. Choose where your voice comes out
Settings, then Voice, then Virtual Mic now offers two destinations: a virtual audio cable that carries the voice into Teams, Zoom and other meeting apps as your microphone, or your speakers, so your real microphone picks it up through the air. Speakers need no setup at all. Cable mode never falls back to playing out loud, so a missing cable means silence and an explanation, never your voice leaking into the room.

Gmail, Outlook and Teams connect in the installed app
Every build before this one shipped without the credentials those connections need, so Connect could only ever fail. Doppel also no longer asks to read your Gmail, only to send, which means it cannot list or open anything in your Gmail mailbox. Connect Outlook if you want Doppel to sort a mailbox and draft from it.

Draft used to ask for a cloud API key and stop there, even with the on-device engine running in front of it. With no key, Doppel now drafts on your machine, and a badge above every draft says whether it was written on your device or in the cloud. Drafting works offline again.
